Shopping in Hannover

Arcades and galleries
Visitors will find upmarket arcades and exclusive galleries in Georgstrasse between Kröpcke, the opera house and Aegidientorplatz. The redesigned pedestrian precinct and the area between Kröpcke and Steintor have a number of department stores. The shops clustered around Marktkirche church, in Niki-St. Phalle Promenade, in the exclusive Galerie Luise and the alternative Lister Meile shopping street are the places to go for something a little different.

Flea market on Leinepromenade
Every Saturday, bargain hunters flock to the flea market on the banks of the River Leine to browse, rummage and haggle over the goods on offer.

Markthalle (Market Hall)
The Markthalle is the place to go for fresh local farm produce and a wide variety of international treats.

City Centre
Hannover is called “the Milan of Germany” for being one of the most fashionable cities of the country; its inhabitants are very good dressed with stylish clothing. If you go to the modern part of the city, you will find many fine boutiques and department stores. Stores are really close one to each other, so you won’t walk much to find interesting places with haute couture clothes and original dresses.

Hannover Flear Market
An important shopping market is the Flohmarkt, the oldest flea market in Germany. It is open every Saturday from 7am to 4pm.

Pedestrian Zone
The pedestrian zone in Hannover city centre is very large. Bahnhofstrasse, running from the main railway station to the central point called Kröpcke, is home to department stores, major clothing shops, telecommunications providers and Hannover's largest bookstore. From the popular traditional meeting place at Kröpcke you can choose between several directions: you will find interesting shops in all of them.

Grosse Packhofstrasse, for example, might be called a shoe-lover’s paradise – but in addition to all the many shoe-shops, the street also boasts high-quality menswear, a sports and technical department store and other shops. Some large, traditional Hannover shops are located at Platz der Weltausstellung. For decades, this has been the place for superior women’s clothing, lingerie, perfumes and cosmetics. And the smaller side streets around the pedestrian zone also have shops and stores that are equally well worth popping into.
